Search engine optimization or SEO is the practice of
modifying a website to enable it to be ranked higher in
search engines. The sole purpose of this is to generate more traffic to
your site (and therefore, more profit for you!). There are no guarantees as to how high your site will rank.
Each search engine uses a different algorithm to rank their results. SEO
is not fast - the positive effects of an optimized website may not start
to show for a few months or more. Many search engines take a month or more
just to update their databases. If you are starting from scratch, it can take
even longer.
There are many different SEO techniques, and each one carries a different weight in different search engines. This means that you may rank higher in some search engines than in others. I prefer to use techniques that result in higher placement in the Google search results. These techniques produce excellent results in other search engines (like Yahoo) as well. It is a myth that you MUST pay to be included in the search engines. If you have a good quality page with good quality content, even the 'pay to include' search engines will pick it up! (It may not be ranked very high, but at least it will be included :) ) I specialize in helping the "Little Guy" get found! I understand that not everybody has a large SEO budget. In fact, that is how I got started. SEO was just too darn expensive to pay someone else to do. I feel that the "Little Guy" should have the same chance at a number 1 ranking that a giant company has. That is one of the main reasons I like Google - they don't allow people to pay for position! Don't worry though, there are things you can do to help your rankings - that's where I come in.
